This backyard fencing project in Brendale involved installing a charcoal Colorbond boundary fence with a concrete sleeper retaining wall to accommodate the property’s sloping ground. The combination created a more level backyard while providing privacy and a consistent boundary around the property.
Managing Changes in Ground Level
The main consideration for this project was the variation in ground height along the backyard boundaries. Rather than installing fencing directly over the uneven ground, a concrete sleeper retaining wall was incorporated beneath the Colorbond fence to retain the soil and help create a more usable, level outdoor area.
The height of the retaining wall varies along the boundary to accommodate the changing ground levels. Some sections required several visible concrete sleepers, while others needed only a smaller retaining section beneath the fence.
Using light-grey concrete sleepers beneath the charcoal Colorbond panels also creates a neat contrast between the two materials. The finished fence follows a consistent boundary line, providing privacy while working around the home’s existing garden beds, trees and landscaping.
A Practical Boundary Solution for Sloping Properties
This Brendale installation shows how Colorbond fencing and concrete sleeper retaining walls can work together where ground levels vary. Rather than treating fencing and soil retention as separate considerations, the installation combines both to create a secure boundary and a more practical backyard.
